Ski To Live

Kristen Ulmer, former U.S. Ski Team member, now Extreme Skier, has started a program out in Utah called "Ski to Live".    The program began in April 2003 as a long-weekend workshop in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah for participants who want to “realize their full potential as a person and as a skier,” according to Kristen Ulmer, the clinic’s founder.  It is a four day, four night workshop for all ability levels and includes telemarkers and snowboarders.  It is open to all ages.

She has now opened her program to cancer survivors so she can share her love of skiing with them. She will be holding four weekend workshop sessions next season with the last one geared specifically to cancer survivors (but open to everyone as well).

USA Today has recognized Ski to Live as the only program of it's kind in the world.  After only two years in the making, the program is receiving national and international attention in the media as being a ground breaking, life changing experience that may alter the way people approach sports.

Kristen Ulmer is a native of Henniker, N.H. and grew up skiing at Pats Peak, a fairly small, local ski area.    Being from the area, and having skied at Pat's Peak on several occasions, it's rather difficult to picture a skier from this area rising to the heights that she has.

She is a  former US Mogul Team skier.   Her membership on the US Mogul Team was short lived because "I didn't have an financial support, so I quit after 4 comps to ski for films instead."

Today, Kristen is an extreme skier, skiing many places most of us only dream about.   She has been featured in dozens of "extreme" skiing films,  Thousands of article, many about her, and other written by her have appeared in national and international magazines.  Her photo has graced the cover and inside pages of dozens of ski and adventure magazines.

Kristen's resume includes writing articles for national and international ski an adventure magazines, extreme skiing, being a featured ski personality in magazines and films,  professional public speaking, and hosting several TV shows.  She is perhaps one of the most influential and often published ski and adventure writers of the decade.  Of the many contributions she has made to the ski and sports world, Ski to Live is by far her favorite.

There are literally thousands of "learn to ski better" clinics and schools around the world.  Likewise, there are thousands of "personal growth" workshops.  Many of these programs are wonderful experiences in and of themselves, but none combine the experience of learning with both the mind and the body.  Kristen started the Ski to Live program to do just that.  Her program combines world class ski instruction with yoga, good food and a comfortable environment.

Genpo Roshi, one of the world's leading Zen masters, and creator of the "Big Mind" process, has been enlisted as the spiritual leader.  With the assistance of other world class skiers and boarders, she directs the on snow component of the program.

Other talented instructors regularly involved with her program are:

Larry O'Neil,  a Life Coach and Adventure Athlete who has worked in the personal development fields since 1987, facilitating groups and acting as a life coach in many professional and personal arenas. He also spent six "wonderful" years teaching skiing at Alta, Utah where he attained his Full-Certified Ski Instructor pin in 1990, and has taught all over the Western US and Europe.  Larry also teaches Anusara Yoga, life coaches individuals or small companies, and is the team captain of the Wasatch Front Adventure Racing Team.

Each session of "Ski to Live" has a third guest ski coach chosen for their contribution to the sports, and for their devotion to being the best person they can be.

Kristen's expanded program for Cancer Survivors could use your support and contributions.  The first cancer survivor specific program will take place in April of 2006.  Cancer Survivors are welcome to participate in the other sessions of the program, and all other skiers are welcome to participate in the April session, but the April session will focus specifically on Cancer Survivors.
