Mom and Dad

My Mom and Dad

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Puliafico of School Street, Barre were the guests of honor at a 50th wedding anniversary held at the George L. Thorng American Legion Hall in South Barre on Saturday, January 11, 1992.  Sam and the former Dorothy Weighill were married on January 1, 1942 at St. Josephs Church in Barre.  Their wedding reception was held in the Barre Room of the Hotel Barre.

The party was given by their five children, Charles, Robert, Paul, Cindy and Laurie and was attended by approximately 100 friends and relatives.  Sam and Dorothy are the proud grandparents of seven and they also have a great granddaughter.

They received a proclaimation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives which was presented by State Representative Stephen M. Brewer.

My dad was quite ill at the time of this party.  He had been in the hospital for 2 months prior to this receiving treatment for cancer.  At the time of the party, he was in a wheel chair.  He insisted on standing for a dance with my mom.  He also insisted on standing as my niece, Maria, then 7 years old, sang Edelweiss to them.  She was always singing this song to them when she came to visit, in fact, she was always singing.  (Maria is now a Junior at the New England Conservatory of Music, studying vocal performance...if my mom and dad could only see and hear her now).

My Dad passed away on June 29, 1992 and my Mom passed away on January 9, 1999.
